Our Travel System

We’re really proud of our travel system. It’s convenient, straight-forward, and eco-friendly. Every Superweek booking includes free, accompanied travel from any of our 17 guaranteed travel points in England and Wales. You can get to any of our summer camps easily and cheaply, whether you live in Newcastle or Newport. One of our Monitors will meet your child at the train or coach station and travel with them all the way to the Centre.

“I loved that Elliot was taken by train – it all added to the experience and more independence for him.”

How does the Travel System work?

Choose your travel point

When you book your Superweek, you can choose from one of our 17 travel points. You can also tell us somewhere you’d rather travel from, and we will offer this if possible. If you prefer, you can choose to drop off or pick up by car.

We confirm travel arrangements

Two weeks before the start of your child’s Superweek, we will confirm the details of their journey to and from the centre, including the meeting time and location, and the time your child’s train or bus will leave. We’ll also send you some special luggage labels for your children’s bags.

Meet our Monitor

On the day of your child’s Superweek, you will drop your child off with one of our volunteers at your chosen travel point. They will be able to answer your questions, and make sure all the children are happy and chatty.

Travel to the Superweek

Your child will travel to their Superweek with their travel Monitor and other children who are off for a Superweek adventure! They might start on a train or a public coach, but the final leg of the journey will be by private bus with the rest of the children going to their Superweek.

Return travel

Your child will head back home a little tired, a little muddy, and with a big smile on their face. They will usually travel with the same Monitor who took them away the week before. You’ll meet your child at the travel point, wave goodbye to our Monitor, and prepare for a month of tales about the brilliant goings-on on their Superweek.

“Monitors were very calm and organised at Euston on possibly the hottest and busiest day of the summer – thank you!”

International Travel

We can meet children at London Heathrow, Birmingham International Airport or the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras International Train Station for a small surcharge. A one-way international pick-up or drop-off costs £40, and a two-way international pick-up and drop-off costs £80.

Please call the office or email us at info@ate.org.uk before booking international travel to discuss your arrangements.

Travel points & approximate times

We use a combination of public coaches, trains, and privately-booked coaches for our travel system, so we can only confirm travel arrangements in the weeks before your Superweek. However, we know it can be useful to have a rough idea of our travel plans beforehand. Please click here to view a PDF showing rough timings, typical stations used, and details of travel points that we don’t guarantee but have offered in the past.
