The Centres

Our holiday weeks are held in beautiful parts of the UK. We choose special centres that will mean our holidays are unforgettable.

We look for centres that have swimming pools, lots and lots and lots of outdoor spaces, fields and woods, big indoor spaces for evening activities and games, little indoor spaces for smaller groups to use as their own, and lovely dormitories for night time whisperings and a good night’s sleep.

These are the 5 centres we’ve chosen to be home to our Superweeks this year; Moor Park, Penn Wood, Frank’s Place and Edgmond Hall and Abberley Hall.

Moor Park, nr. Ludlow. Shropshire.

When not being home to ATE Superweeks, and 3,336 kg of fun, Moor Park is to be found being a boarding school near Ludlow, Shropshire. It has playing fields, woods (equipped with very climbable trees and a squodgey bog), fountains and lake. It has its very own indoor heated swimming pool, and a huge gym for Whole Holiday Benchball Tournaments. In the main house there is a big hall we use as a games room or theatre, and really comfy themed dormitories. You could find yourself sleeping in the Pirates Lair, under the treasure map!

“Moor Park will always be my favourite centre. The building is lovely the grounds are great fun and have some lovely extras to offer the holiday.” – Monitor, 2013

In previous years at Moor Park we have:

  • Discovered secret passages
  • Made huge art attacks on the lawn
  • Raced mechanical fish in the pool
  • Had a party in a ship’s galley

Edgmond Hall, nr. Newport, Shropshire

Edgmond Hall

Edgmond Hall is a Georgian House sat in 45 acres of its own woodland and farmland in the village of Edgmond, just outside Newport in Shropshire.

The estate was once a working farm, and now the farm buildings have been converted into games rooms, group spaces and hideaways ideal for a Superweek snug. The centre has ponds for pond dipping, allotments and an animal area with pygmy goats, guinea pigs, chickens and rabbits!

There are brilliant woods, playgrounds and a bonfire pitch. The centre sits right in the heart of the village, so groups will be able to go for a walk, post their postcards and find the local sweet shop.

Abberley Hall, nr. Worcester

Abberley Hall, in the heart of Worcestershire country side, is a boarding school during term time. It has lots of comfortable dormitories hidden in different parts of the hall and everything we need for a fantastic week. We will have 90 acres to play in and explore, a swimming pool and lots of different spaces for games and group activities. There is even a clock tower!

We will certainly be getting out and about and exploring our surroundings. The centre is very near Worcester and is in a very beautiful corner of England.

Penn Wood, nr Stroud.

Nestled in behind a large common, just off the Cotswold Way and near to the picture postcard towns of Stroud and Nailsworth, is our hidden gem … Penn Wood campsite.

Mainly used by Scout groups in the rest of the year, the entire site is ours for the duration of the Wild Things Superweek. There are lots of secret glades tucked in between young, newly planted woodland, and connecting paths to explore and map the site. We will make base camp next to the thick area of certified Ancient Woodland, and make use of the lovliest fire circle we’ve seen in ages; looking out over one of the main Cotswold Ridges.

We have everything we need for Pioneering and Wild Workshops and full access to a large common for team games and all manner of whole holiday fun. The sites Norwiegan Log Cabin make an ideal dining and games room (and has hot showers!) and we have The Bunkhouse for extra spaces. But we have ordered plenty of warm, dry weather, so we can enjoy lunches in the outdoor picnic area too.

The nearest road is a long, long way away, but there are bridle paths a-plenty, so we hope there will be a lot of wildlife spotted over the week. We saw two badger sets when we visited before Christmas.

In 2018 Penn Wood will be home to two The Wild Things Superweeks!

Frank’s Place nr. Bewdley. Worcestershire.

An outdoor adventure and Eco-Education centre; 90 acres of woodlands (all ours for the whole week), forests and meadows within walking distance of the river Severn and the famous Teddy Gray sweet shop in picturesque Bewdley.

The centre itself has really lovely spacious dorms (definitely what is needed after an energetic afternoon in the woods), a big dining room, a games room for evenings all together, outdoor classrooms and plenty of interesting things to investigate like the worm farm and why there are bottles of diet coke inside all the loos.

In previous years at Frank’s Place we have:

  • Woken up REALLY early to go deer stalking
  • Spent the afternoon on a bug safari
  • Got far too competitive in the Food Waste Challenge
  • Made marble runs from junk that looped the centre
  • Spent the day canoeing on the river Severn

In 2018 Frank’s Place will be home to the Grand Adventure and the UltimATE Escapade!
